3/24/2024 0 Comments Abarth beats audio amp update![]() I discovered a nondescript external amplifier (that the internet basically knows nothing about) in the trunk of this new Fiat and thought maybe, just maybe I could get away with installing new speakers in the doors and calling it a day. Primary use case: Windows down, roof open, freeway noise and I want to clearly hear music, friends or talking heads. No external sub (that I'm aware of), and this system sounded more than adequate for my needs. My other vehicle is a 2011 VW Jetta Wagon TDI that came with a factory-installed Infinity sound system. My catalogue includes NPR talk and classical, punk rock, 70's and 90's rock, jazz, raggae, hip hop, gangsta rap and dubstep. I'm not an audiophile or a teenaged bass-head, but I do enjoy a huge variety of sounds. I would have certainly failed without Crutchfield support.ĪTTEMPT ONE - Front Speakers Only (FAIL): I don't know of any other company that provides this level of service for home hacks to tear apart their own cars. I was able to get very thorough, detailed knowledge from the sales associate(s) and multiple calls to their tech support line saved me from a number of terrible ideas that came up during the install. If you're even remotely interested in doing your own install, Crutchfield is well worth the moderate price difference you may find for individual components on the internet. When separating the two wires, the insulation frequently tears into one side or the other, exposing the copper and forcing you to cut another inch or two off.Īll in, I spent somewhere around $1,200 and about 22 hours over a weekend. Here is the equipment that did fit into my 2014 500c Abart/GQ Edition Fiat:ģ) Extra Speaker Wire <- NOT RECOMMENDED. This Peter Von Panda is a really boring jackass, but does have some great info on getting A2DP Bluetooth and a CDRom phone mount (but his model was no longer available so I bought this one which works great). An aftermarket stereo is a good indicator of other goodies so this was a non-option for me.Īlso, I mostly just use my phone (Nexus 5) for music, podcasts and navigation. So I thought I'd give back to the community by sharing what worked for me, what I've learned and some things that didn't work.įor the record, I did not want to replace the factory stereo mainly because I don't want to draw attention to my car as I live in a big(ish) city and people frequently smash windows and take whatever is inside. This forum seems to be the canonical source for all things late-model-Fiat-500 and most articles, posts or links ultimately led me here. I was shocked to discover how little information there was out there about this particular year 500C, and found a variety of posts and articles that seemed to be contradicting each other. I wasn't impressed by the Beats sound system, so I found one with the stock sound system and planned to upgrade it later. The GQ branding is horrifically embarrassing (and will be removed soon), but I wanted the sliding roof, performance of the Abarth turbo and ability to have a conversation on the freeway, so it turned out to be close to perfect. I bought a new 500C Abarth/GQ three weeks ago. ![]()
